The gardens “La Mortella”

the gardens “la mortella”

In the municipality of  Lacco Ameno and Forio d'Ischia lies a beautiful garden, full of exotic and tropical plants, created by Mr. and Mrs Walton,  a British couple, after the Second World War. The park opened to the public in 1991 and can be visited between April and November.

The gardens are a charming and fascinating place, because of the contrast that is created by the impervious nature of the place (the gardens of Mortella rise on the ridge of a hill) and the chromatic harmonies of the park. The colors and scents are incredible, visitors will be able to admire the flora that delights the senses and give visitors the idea of being in the actual Garden of Eden.

The Mortella gardens, take their  name from the Neapolitan word for "Myrtle", is divided into two parts: the Garden Valley, with trees, plants and flowers from different parts of the world, and in the Garden Hills, with aquatic plants, the Crocodile Waterfalls and the Greek Theater. It is worth mentioning that the Mortella gardens  host  important musical events every year, such as the Recital di Musica da Camera (Chamber Music Recital) in the spring and autumn, and Symphonic Music Concerts at different times of the year. For a virtual tour of the park, we suggest you visit the site www.lamortella.org.
